Iditarod

5 March 2011 - We went down to Anchorage (2 degrees Fahrenheit) for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod.  We were a few miles away from the start, but got to be right along and even on the track as the teams came by.  The boys loved collecting high fives from the mushers as they came through, but were particularly fond of the handful of cute female mushers!  The following pictures are a glimpse of the event, and the video shows Austin getting a high five from Zoya Denure, a former international runway model, and the musher Aunt Shayla chose to cheer for, but scratched after one of her dogs nearly died, but revived after Zoya gave the animal mouth-to-snout resuscitation (no joke).  Happy mushing!

Only in Alaska can you actually stand on the track, minutes before a world renowned event!

  1. Very nice. I still think there were some shenanigans with my Jamaican musher not finishing.
